Since returning to the building I am trying to engage my students as much as possible. New this year, I am teaching computers to our self-contained Autism students, to help them be able to graduate with the Alternative Diploma. My students all have Chromebooks but my classroom is small and the charging area I have is not ideal. Having a charging cart will help promote my student's independence and organizational skills. My classroom is a place where kids can be themselves and work together. My students love to play games together and seeing them be able to bond over board games and card games is amazing. Being at home last year due to COVID and not able to play games with each other was hard on my students. I would love to give them more games to choose from. My classroom also has a quiet area where my students can go when they need to cool down or regulate, this area has been getting a lot of use now since the stress of the pandemic. My students really need bean bags for the area to allow them a place to sit when cooling down. Sensory items, such as the Kinetic Sand and Play-Doh will also be used. Lastly, my class works on academic and vocational tasks. The Time books will give my students more choices for free reading time. The markers help my students complete their academic work. The velcro, laminating pouches, and tubs will allow me to make task boxes that align with my students' IEP goals. To recognize and demonstrate friendship-building skills to make and keep friends. [NS: 2.8] To evaluate personal wellness and ways to cope with stress through healthy habits. [NS: H 1.0, H 4.0]
