I am a Kindergarten teacher with 20 energetic students. My students are at the age when their fine motor and gross motor skills are still developing. They are very active and need opportunities during the day to wiggle in addition to learning their numbers, letters, shapes, how to tie their shoes, and how to button and zip clothes. Learning how to read is important for them to learn in kindergarten. I chose items that will help them to learn and develop in these areas. I ordered a class set of wiggle cushions so students can get some movement when they are sitting down without disturbing others. I also included a portable indoor trampoline to give students an opportunity to get exercise during breaks. It will also help when we are unable to go outside for recess. When children can be active it helps them to focus better. English Language Arts (RF.K.1, RF.K.4) The student needs to recognize upper- and lower-case letters, (Alphabet stamp letters) read books with purpose, (leveled readers, sight word readers, alphabet bingo). The basic life skills set and tying shoes set will help with Early Learning Development skills. In Kindergarten, students learn through working in various learning centers that focus on Math (K.CC.A.1, K.CC. A3.) The students need to recognize numbers, write numbers, count, sort, know shapes and colors (crayon color sort). Prior to Covid, children had more opportunities to attend Preschool and Early Learning Programs in person. That helped prepare many of them for the school setting. Many parents who must work were unable to spend time with their children. As a teacher, I must fill in the gaps of what my students did not learn prior to coming to school as well as teach them what they need to know. Thank you.
