I am asking for an iPad because our district just partnered with a technology company to create a custom, static report card that is easily understood by kindergarten students and their families. That is, the moment I enter assessment data, students and families have that information at their fingertips. Right now, it's time-consuming to assess students at my desktop or tote my laptop around. An iPad would help me be more mobile with assessment options during class or assess from home during a shutdown (virtual meet on one screen, track data on the iPad). This iPad will align with many NEPF commitments such as professional standard four-family engagement, instructional standard 5 assessment integrated into instruction, and instructional standard 3 students take responsibility for their learning.
Number sense can't be taught, it has to be caught and there is no better way to catch number sense than math games! Number bond whiteboards will help students see that numbers can be put together or taken apart to help build a core foundation for addition and subtraction. Sorting circles will help students see and hear how math items can be sorted, letter sounds, etc. The other math games will help increase student subitizing skills. These games and manipulatives align with NEPF instructional standards 1 and 2 and many NVACS standards (K.CC.A.1, K.CC.B.4, K.CC.B.5,K.CC.C.6, K.OA.A.1, K.OA.A.3, K.OA.A.4, K.OA.A.5, K.NBT.A.1). I'm hoping these games will help increase our student MAPS data in kindergarten because our grade level collaboratively knows with such a big emphasis on ELA, math has suffered and we need to do better.
