My students, like many other 8th graders throughout the nation, are at a crucial and impressionable time in their lives. They are aware of the challenges they face, coming from a high-poverty, ubran area of Tennessee--however, they face them with a strong work ethic and an optimism matched only by their teachers. Many of my pupils already have set goals in life; in fact, if you ask, I am sure many could tell you the college they will attend in five short years. They love to learn and with the proper motivation and loving support, they can reach the high expectations set for them as shown by their wonderful performance on standardized tests in their 7th grade year. I can not ask a question in class without at least half the class squirming in their seats to provide an answer (that is, if the other half has not shouted it out yet!). While strict, our school is driven by results and the future of our students--which parents and the community appreciate.
