  • Advancing With Awesome Algebra

    I'd like to express my gratitude to you for funding my project Advancing with Awesome Algebra. Students enter 9th grade with a variety of life and mathematical experiences and your contribution has allowed me to provide learning resources that meet students where they are. Most of the project resources support students in moving from a conceputal understanding of algebraic concepts to procedural fluency. Being able to use the dry erase number lines allows students to make connections between what they already know about integers to percentages, ratios and graphing. The algebra tiles support them in beginning to solve one and two-step equations. Because of the concrete materials you donated students can make meaning of the math and develop a strong foundation from which to make sense of new problems and situations.”

  • Bringing Algebra to Life

    My Algebra students are benefiting greatly from your generosity. The algebra tiles, graphing slide boards and highlighters have had the most impact on improving student access to and understanding of the concepts we are learning. When I introduce a new concept I begin with the concrete representation (algebra tiles, slide boards) so that students have the opportunity to manipulate physical objects and develop conceptual understanding. We then move to pictoral representation the highighers help students annotate and color code important features of their representation.

    We thank you so much for providing the opportunity for students to build their understandings of algebra through the many materials you contributed. Because many of the materials are non-consumable students will continue to benefit for years to come.”
