Let's Write About It!
Funded Dec 3, 2021The students I support are multi-modal learners and are most successful when they have repeated practice through multiple learning modalities, particularly through visual cues, combined with auditory or tactile cues. Written language is such an important part of their education. As a result of your generous funding, I am able to support my students through alternative writing opportunities to improve their literacy skills. My students are using the write wipe boards to write target words, to write sentences and to draw pictures to verbally discuss and then write about. Your funding has provided enough write wipe boards for the group, so each student can write or draw and then share his or her work with their peers during our sessions.
My students were pleasantly surprised by the teaching easel and the individual write wipe boards. They have loved coming into the speech room to see what is written on the teaching easel. They have enjoyed using multiple colors on their boards to draw their attention to certain parts of the word or sentence. My students have also enjoyed being my helper to erase and clean the boards.
I plan to continue to engage my students in written language tasks using the write wipe boards during their sessions. Some students are ready to expand their thoughts in writing and will be encouraged to write multiple sentences on the write wipe boards, after my model on the teaching easel. We are very thankful for your generosity.”

Funded Oct 8, 2021The students I support are multi-modal learners and are most successful when they have repeated practice through multiple learning modalities. Technology has become such an important part of education. As a result of your generous funding, I am now able to project stories, pictures and videos for my students during their speech sessions. With our new projector, my students are able to practice their good communication skills while explaining their response in front of the group, ask a question to another peer in the group and interactively respond to questions and to each other. Additionally, 'brain breaks' and participation in movement activities are great opportunities for students to communicate with each other in less structured, more spontaneous tasks.
My students have enjoyed seeing the stories, pictures and videos projected on the wall when they enter the room for their sessions. My students have loved getting up in front of the group to point to their answers, ask questions and explain responses.
Several students have warmed to the projector, particularly asking for specific activities and videos to be shown on the projector during our sessions. I have also noted a significant improvement regarding the attention of my students due to the newly possible multi-modal tasks I can engage them in during their sessions. We are very thankful for your generosity.”
