World drumming is essential to music! By learning to play the drum, students will be able to keep a steady beat, understand the difference between beat and rhythm, and make music at very young ages. Each instrument touches a student differently. By giving my students a new instrument they have not experience in the past, their passion and talent for music will grow! This could be the instrument that changes a students perspective on their interest in music, and could improve their mental well-being, fine motor skills, and their emotional well-being.
Today, I taught a lesson to PreK and Kindergarten about the weather. We walked around to the steady beat of my drum, used scarves to represent the wind, rhythm sticks to represent rain drops, and even brought out the magic rain stick! The lesson I was using called for a buffalo drum, though I did not have one. By using my djembe drum, the sounds, sights, and overall feeling of the lesson was different than intended. By having the correct instruments, I can teach each lesson a bit more effectively!
Thank you for your consideration of my students and school. We appreciate you!
