Digital Piano for Music Classroom

Funded Mar 20, 2022

Thank you for funding my project to bring in a digital piano into my K-8 music classroom. When the students saw the piano, they were so excited and enthusiastic to try playing it! Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students learned how to play a variety of simple songs on the small classroom keyboards. At the end of the year, students were invited to perform a song of their choosing for the entire class as a mini end of year piano recital. They students loved the opportunity to play their song on a full size keyboard. Because of the size and structure of the digital keyboard, students were able to see the performer playing on the piano. An acoustic piano would be too tall and students typically have their backs turned away from the audience. But playing the digital keyboard, we were able to enjoy seeing the students fingers as they play and seeing their facial expressions. It was such a pleasure to share our excitement and accomplishments together! I attached photos of students from different classes performing for their peers in our mini piano recitals.

I am also grateful to be able to use the digital keyboard in our choir concert performances! It is easy to move out of my classroom to the stage. I also love being able to see my students over the piano. It also helps students to be able to see me and follow my directing cues while I accompany their songs for practice and for performances.

With the humidity we've had this year from AZ Monsoons, I haven't needed to use school funds to pay for someone to come tune my piano this year! I enjoy this additional perk of having a digital piano. Thank you so much for your generosity and for seeing my classroom as an important need to recognize and fill. We all benefit and appreciate you!”

With gratitude,
