  • The Fifty Nifty: Books My Kids Want to Read

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

If I could I would say thank you a thousand times for your support of this project. My students attend a small K-6 public school and use a library that is over 40 years old. Every week I work with nearly 350 wonderful children in my library. Many of them are at-risk. They all are served free breakfast and lunch, but we are not a Title I school.

My kids wanted these fifty awesome books but we did not have the funds to buy them. Your donation changed all of that.

The books have arrived and they are flying out of the library. Kids are reading and discussing their favorite titles. There is a real buzz in the school.

Thank you for your help. Your donation made a real difference in the lives of my kids.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. H.

  • A Clean Swipe With Disinfecting Wipes

    Funded Feb 10, 2017

Awesome! The supplies that your donation purchased have arrived. They are wonderful! And have made such a difference.

We now have disinfecting wipes, special anti-viral tissues and hand sanitizer in the library for my students to use. I think that our attendance rate is better and I can tell there are fewer colds and runny noses.

I am so excited because it means that my students are in school and ready for their library lessons. There was absolutely no money in the budget for this type of essential supplies. Thank you for making a real difference in the lives of my students.”

  • Essential Soap and Snacks for my Scholars

    Funded Feb 8, 2017

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I can't say the words often enough.

The two containers of Tide PODS and the nutritious snacks as well as the cases of juice boxes have arrived and we are so very grateful for them.

I have washed two loads of clothes today for students who were sick and needed a change into clean clothes. My after school bunch is currently munching on a snack that you helped to provide. We are in the midst of standardized PEAK testing and they were starving when they came into the library after school.

What a difference this project has made. I smile every time I think about how kind you are. On behalf of my wonderful students—thank you. You are awesome!”

  • Support for Environmental Library Materials

    Funded Jan 3, 2017

AWESOME! That is the word that my students use to describe the new shelving.

When the shelving finally arrived on a snowy day, I ran out to greet the delivery truck. The delivery man brought the two shelving units into the building and stored it outside the library. I thanked him. He smiled and asked if he looked familiar and I asked if he had gone to school here. He said that he had and that he loved coming to the library but often could not find the things he needed in the science section.

I told him these new metal shelving units were going to be used to organize STEM, maker space materials and science books that my students needed to be able to find.

This new shelving for science materials means so much to my school community. Thank you again.”

  • Mo Willems: Inspired STEAM Learning Using Picture Books

    Funded Feb 28, 2017

Thank you for donating to this project.

The tinker toys, IPEVO Document Camera and books have arrived. We have studied the books especially my favorite, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! We read all the books together using the IPEVO Document Camera. Wow! The camera has made such a difference in our class—every child can see the tiny pictures and everyone can comment on the book's content.

Right now, students are forming teams and are selecting one of the books by Mo Willems for further study. They are also selecting items for their very own "inventor boxes". Soon they will be using their inventor boxes to construct a car or bus that Pigeon could drive.

This has been a joyful STEAM learning experience for my first graders and you are the one who made it all possible. On behalf of my students, Thank You!!”

  • Clean Clothes, Warm Hands and Heads Make Happy Scholars

    Funded Feb 13, 2017

Oh my goodness, my "lunch buddies" are so excited to leave me! if I wasn't so happy for them I would be crushed. But now that the sweat pants, gloves and hats have arrived, they are going outside every day.

Of course, I am all alone in the library but I am so happy that they can go out and recreate with their peers. Sometimes a little thing means so much in the life a child. I know that they will remember your kindness for their entire lives.

My students wanted me to be sure to tell how much they appreciated your kindness. Recess is such an important part of the day is was really tragic that they could not go outside. Your donation has put sunshine into their lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. H.

  • Google: My Kids Need Chromebooks

    Funded Feb 7, 2017

I know that you had a choice to make when you decided to donate to this project and I am so very grateful that you decided to help my children. Thank you.

The four HP Chromebooks have arrived and my students were delighted to see them. These new machines replaced ones that were old and had suffered from some pretty heavy use.

The chromebooks could not have arrived at a better time. My students are busy doing research on the Iditarod race. They are tracking mushers and plotting statistics. They are sharing the information with some "net-pals" in Washington state. The air is electric when they get to working in the library. They are so serious and excited when they learn a new fact.

Thank you for making all this learning possible.”

  • Oops! I Miscounted, My Fourth Graders Need 2 More Chromebooks

    Funded Feb 7, 2017

Thank you so much for supporting this project. The two HP Chromebooks have arrived and the kids are overjoyed.

As soon as they say the boxes, they knew exactly what was inside and they could not wait for me to open them up and display the new machines. They all agreed that the new machines were "awesome". They are so clean, light weight and fast.

They wanted me to be sure to say thank you for them. They are especially grateful because they do not have to share or work in teams because now we have one working machine for each student.”

  • Google, My 21st Century Learners Need a Chromebook

    Funded Dec 31, 2016

I want to tell you how much we appreciate your donation to our project. Our school is designated a high poverty school and all of my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. And as impossible as it may seem, we are not a Title One school. We lack many of the resources that other schools take for granted. Every child in the school uses my library and I desperately needed to replace our old Chromebooks that died due to heavy use.

The five HP Chromebooks have arrived and my students are so excited and grateful. My students value these computers because they have limited access to technology outside of school.

We immediately opened the boxes so we could see the computers. Then I put in a help ticket in to our IT department so they could come and configure the machines. My kids could hardly contain themselves. Luckily, our district IT folks came the next day after school. When my kids arrived on Wednesday, the machines were ready for them. MAGIC!

My K-2 grade students are using them for help in reading and math. My third -sixth grade students are able to use them for writing and sharing via Google Docs. It is so wonderful to see my kids using the Chromebooks and taking care of them.

Thank you for choosing to support this project. Your donation has made a real difference in the lives of my students.”

  • 3rd Graders Need to Learn About Science and the Environment

    Funded Dec 29, 2016

First of all, on behalf of my students, I want to say a big thank you! Your donations and support have allowed my students to have seven different text sets including six copies of Arctic Lights, Arctic Nights and six copies of Weather Words and What They Mean. These text sets have made a tremendous difference to my third graders.

They are learning how to do close reading using short passages in these nonfiction science books. Their interest in science has grown significantly. They love having a special library science center (stocked with the books you helped to purchase) where they can explore, read and re-visit their favorite books.

My students' favorite book is Wangari's Trees of Peace: A True Story from Africa. They enjoyed talking about her environmental project and now they want to plant trees in our playground area. They are learning to be stewards of the earth.

Thank you for choosing to support this project. Your donation has made a real difference in the lives of my students.”

As a librarian, I work with 397 great kids many of whom are the children of deployed military personnel. All of my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Their families do not have money for frills like books and school supplies. My students are terrific kids but need your help. Please help me to help them. Thanks.
