Reading is an important part of every student's education. Unfortunately, for the students in my 3rd-5th grade Special Education class reading is a big struggle due to a number of factors outside their control. As a result of these struggles their test scores that are "significantly below" their grade level. My students lack confidence in their reading abilities my students also struggle in other areas of school such as math, writing, and any other activity that requires them to read. I would like to help my students read better by using materials from a research based reading program called SPIRE, a research-proven reading intervention program for the lowest performing students. It is designed to build reading success through an intensive, structured, and spiraling curriculum that incorporates phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension in a systematic 10-Step lesson plan.Your donation will add to fund a Level 1 set for our classroom. At this time I have students who are reading at least 2 grade levels below fifth grade. An effective reading intervention now could change the trajectory of their academic lives!
