  • Comfortable Learning Space for Our Community!

    Thank you so much for supporting us with this project. Students are thankful for having a safe place to learn a new language and build a strong communities in every class.

    Muchas gracias por el apoyo en este projecto. Los estudiantes estan muy agradecidos por tener un lugar seguro para aprender un nuevo idioma y a la vez tener la oportunidad de crear comunidades muy fuertes.

    School year 22-23 will be done very soon and students are excited for summer break. Beside Finals, students are also writing reflections about this school year. Here are some examples of students answers:

    "I made friends that I'll always remember which is very special to me. I think I learned that you can have fun while also learning new things and being in class" (NP).

    "I will always remember the no chairs :) I will also always remember the very movement based social environment this class was. I will miss it" (MR).

    "I think I will take the community in this class, and try to apply it to my future classes. I really enjoy the environment and its energy" (P)

  • Making a Classroom Comfortable Part 2-Need Additional Mats to Finish

    Thank you again for your support. The mats will complete the project of making our rooms comfortable and colorful. Students have been so happy with the current mats and will be thrilled to know that we can now cover the entire space.   • Making a Classroom Comfortable for Active Learning

    Thank you so much for helping us with the necessary resources to make our classroom more comfortable. Once we received the order, we were able to place the mats in the classroom and use them immediately.

    The students are thrilled with the mats. Students even came to help place them in the classroom. Overall, students are more engaged in the activities and have been using the mats to sit on during class time. Additionally, having more colors in the room produces a great environment that stimulates learning.

    This classroom project was brought to life by The Allstate Foundation and 6 other donors.
The Mats will provide a space for students to sit while learning Spanish. By removing the tables and using Mats, we are able to move around more within the classroom environment and keep students engaged and active while learning Spanish. Students use the mats to sit and talk with other students and create a more relaxed environment for learning another language. On a typical day, we are able to stand on the Mats in a circle and recite a poem. Then we break into pairs and sit on Mats to discuss the prior weekend. Next the class is standing on the Mats and we discuss vocabulary. When I am teaching a tense, students can choose to be seated or standing.
