There are many tools and resources I would love to incorporate into my classroom, but it can be costly. My goal is to accommodate all students by using sensory tools, flexible seating, and making the classroom atmosphere a safe place where students love to learn. Flexible seating increases student motivation and elevates engagement. I am a firm believer that flexible seating helps students stay focused, improves student behavior, and leads to a higher academic performance. My students should not be sitting in the same seats as I did 15 years ago. They need to be introduced to a more modernized environment that suits this generation and the next. Along with flexible seating, all students need access to sensory tools. Many students, whether they have a disability or not, benefit from using sensory tools in class. When taught how to use properly, these tools help students stay focused and will create higher participation levels. Not only are student academic levels benefited, they're more likely going to feel safe within the classroom. Fidgets, another form of a sensory tool, benefit students with social emotional needs. They are a source of relaxation and a tool to help calm down students who face anxiety, stress, and more. While these tools are being utilized properly, students will show an inflated growth in academic performance and mental health. Overall, I believe flexible seating and sensory tools benefit student academics and mental health. In my years of teaching, I have witnessed many students positively impacted by these methods and hope to be chosen to help benefit students for the next several years.
