My students love any and all hands-on activities. In the music room curently, we frequently sing and play hand drums, but my kids are constantly asking when they can learn more instruments. Adding 10 ukuleles to my class means that I will be able to break my classes into pairs where one student wil be playing the ukulele and the other will be their coach, giving them helpful tips and tricks. Learning to play the ukulele will build student confidence, cooperation, and leadership. The ukulele is an instrument that students see professional musicians use, but is approachable enough for students to learn and feel successful at. When a student learns three simple chords, they've unlocked the ability to play dozens of different songs. This ability builds student confidence. By switching back and forth from the musician role to the coaching role, students learn to work cooperatively with each other and how to problem solve. My students have already shown incredible musicianship and aptitude while doing other musical activities, and the purchase of these instruments will help grow them even more.
