The students in the Digital Music and Piano Classes that I teach have outdated and overly-used headphones that are starting to massively fail. Right now the class is pretty noisy with those students having to compose music and play piano out loud. Although the silver lining is that I have been able to use this to foster a safe environment where they know that mistakes shall not be judged, rather they shall be explored, it is time to be able to allow the students to experience concentrating on a higher level. These headphones and microphones will complete our music lab's sound design that will allow our students to receive little to no distractions during their higher-level thinking through their creative endeavors. Workplace expert Dr. Gloria Mark has researched that it takes on average 23 minutes to return to your original task when interrupted. If an idea or an inspiration is realized at the moment for a student, that might be distracted or taken away due to the noise level of other students. After all, studies have shown that creating and evaluating endeavors are those that grant the most growth in cognitive development and I don't want that hindered in this classroom *especially* if this class is designed to foster higher-level thinking.
