I am a Resource teacher that supports Kindergarten through Second Grade students. The students I work with all have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), which means that every student has required additional support structured out for them. This additional support comes in reading, math, writing, social and emotional learning, as well as independent functioning. My goal in my classroom is to make all my student comfortable with making mistakes and learning from those mistakes. My students face many adversaries throughout the day but at the same time they are always learning the best ways to put forth their efforts in all they attempt. While I come into contact with my students and am their teacher for the first 3 years of schooling, my goal is to continuously create a learning experiences that will transcend into their coming years of school. The goal is to help my students gain the skills needed to be successful in their academic career so that they may progress successfully in their educational journey. Included in my project are a series of books and social emotional regulation tools that will help my students start to understand how to go through regulating their emotions. The role of Emotional Regulation in the classroom is tied in with their early academic success. Emotional regulation is associated with a child’s academic success and productivity in the classroom. Also included in my project are visual timers, literacy support activities that will help them develop their independence. My project will support the needs of students diagnosed with Autism as well as students who are diagnosed with learning disabilities, or other health impairments.
