  • Build Back Bet.. Background Knowledge

    These books have been a great boon for our classroom. Our students fluency, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and background knowledge have improved dramatically. I have many students who have now fallen in love with reading chapter books.

    So far, our class has read Holes by Louis Sachar and are currently finishing up the Witches by Roald Dahl. They read a chapter a day, than they answer comprehension questions with a partner. They have to cite page number and paragraphs which has helped them with citing text evidence and key details. Furthermore, we have whole group discussions designed to improved students background knowledge.

    Finally, I have both 4th and 5th grade students who are going to library and checking out chapter books! They are particularly interested in the works of Road Dahl, the author of Witches. We hope to complete the BFG by the end of the year. I know parents have enjoyed watching the movies of the books with their children too! Thank you for your contributions.”

The Witches by Roald Dahl is a fun story that helps build students background knowledge of different cultures. The classroom keeper and calendar provide an equitable classroom environment. It will help the students have the same resources available that most modern classes have. The Magnetic whiteboard is heaven sent for our classroom combo. I know the students from our class struggle with having only one area of focus in the classroom.
