Future Musicians Needed
Funded Dec 1, 2021My 4th and 5th graders have been using the xylophones in the last month. They practiced making melodies, creating compositions, and performing. I created a Xylophone unit where they not only practice note recognition, but actually get to play the notes that they practiced on the xylophone. They were able to see, hear, say, and feel the melody. Using all senses helps reinforce these musical concepts.
I see new groups of students weekly. I would walk down the halls with a cart full of xylophones. Every time I walked down the hall with the xylophones, the students would get excited knowing they would get a chance to use them. They had huge smiles on their faces when I brought them into the classroom. My students love learning new skills and instruments.
My next steps are to use the xylophones as a yearly melody project. The students can look forward to it every year. Xylophones gives these students a break from prepping for mcas or tests in their other general classes. They are truly grateful every time we use these instruments.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Torres
