To expand imagination we must first expand what we can see. In this project, our students will explore new perspectives in biology and physics by recording up-close observations of professionally prepared microscope slides, and then creating their own slides. Our school has 20 microscopes and nothing to look at. These prepared slides will fix that by letting the students examine the minute details of everyday objects like computer chips, then delve deep into cellular biology and learn just how different animal tissues can be! Our students have also never used spring scales. These tools are essential for teaching the difference between force and mass. When we learn that weight is the force of the Earth pulling us towards its center, it helps us realize how we are all connected in space.
