Funded Jan 7, 2022My students have been having a great time being able to build study aids from what they have learned in class. Since we are in the final weeks of our school year, review has been a big concept in our lessons. I have found that my students have felt more successful when they can recall a music theory lesson and create a study aid to display the concept learn. Using the art supplies to create these visuals have helped them to remember the lessons and also help students who may struggle with certain concepts. From these opportunities, I have seen students emerge in student leaders who look forward to coming to class because they know they'll be able to serve as a leader who is gaining respect and attention because of their talents and interpersonal skills.
When we first got the markers and posters, my students were confused. They didn't know how they were going to take the lessons that they learned and create a visual. After getting the instruction to brain storm and work in groups to create a visual aid on music theory lessons, they developed new ways to understand and differentiate vocabulary words like D.S al Segno and repeat signs.
As we continue to advance ourselves in musical learning, our next step is to get the students more comfortable with taking a sheet of music and bringing it to life. I want them to move in a direction where they can be independent music readers, great listeners, and leaders of their own musical learning. I am so grateful for your support of sculpting these young creatives in their musicianship!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Covington
