  • Mouse Trap Car Race

    Funded Dec 16, 2021

Thank you for all generously donating supplies and materials for the eighth grade mousetrap car project!

This is a project that is done around the nation and one I clearly remember doing in 8th grade myself. Although we have just begun the project investigating and planning stage of the project, the students are showing excitement and are eager to get the supplies in their hands.

Students were first given a day to come up with a sketch/design of their car just given a supply list. The next day students were allowed to use their computers and research different designs that have been created over the years and re-sketch a design of their car.

This week the students have begun looking into all the different subsystems of the mousetrap car. They must apply previously learned physics terms from their forces and motions unit to each of their main components of their cars. Lastly they must hypothesize what will happen with their cars according to newton's three laws of motion.

I'm excited to let the students explore with the materials and supplies you provided us with this Friday! They well get three different trial runs and record their data in each testing phase. We are going for distance, excited to see the students work with a partner and creatively try to come up with a design that will beat their peers!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. MacLeod

  • Physical Education / Playground Equipment

    Funded Nov 21, 2021

The physical education teacher is currently doing an basketball unit using the very balls that were donated from you!

The students were using lop sided and deflated balls prior to the balls we received with no complaints at all. When I first brought the new balls out for lunch time students were ecstatic and couldn't wait to play knock out with them.

The soccer balls have been very useful during lunch time and during physical education units as well.

Students are beginning to design their very own sport game and must choose to use either the basketballs, hand balls, or soccer balls as a basis of their game/sport activity to coordinate and teach to the rest of the class.

Thank you again for all the supplies we are more than grateful to have them and are putting them to use everyday.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. MacLeod

  • Designing a Gaga Ball Court

    Funded Sep 27, 2021

Thank you for providing the materials needed for the designing and implementation of a gaga ball court here at Kavod Middle school. In just a few weeks the students will begin mapping out the school campus and conducting to scale sketches of the gaga ball court. They will also begin learning how to write a proposal and will send it in to the school board for location and construction of the court.

We are so excited to begin this project and can't wait to document the final product. This product will be at the school for years to come and will bring so many young students joy as well as though who design and build it a lasting memory and impression on their school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. MacLeod

The materials requested will be used for students to design and build for themselves and the school a gaga ball court. The students are in a design course in which we design and engineer or innovate many different projects and activities. The students don't have a lot of playground space and lack equipment such as basketball hoops, soccer goals, and handball walls. The students would be required to create sketches of the gaga ball court to scale and make a materials list needed with a budget. They would then need to create a presentation proposal for the School director as far as the location of the gaga ball court. They will work as a team to take their scale drawings to physically build the court. Lastly, they will test and evaluate the gaga ball court and see if any adjustments need to be made.
