The dramatic play area is a popular place for children in my classroom. It gives them a variety of opportunities to play, create, and use their imagination. This includes playing with the doll house, putting on silly costumes, and putting the dolls to bed. The kitchen area in particular has become a big hit this school year. There has big a huge interest in pretend food, dishes, cutting fruit. Having a new kitchen will increase the opportunities for my children to engage in back-and-forth conversations and turn taking. In turn, this will help them increase their language skills and ability to take turn and share with their peers. The kitchen that is currently in my classroom has been taped together in several places, because it is old. My students' are also learning about healthy eating and making choices about healthy foods. Learning to eat a variety of foods is not always easy for children with Autism or other special needs. I am working to teach children about a variety of fruits and vegetables. Introducing this while they are playing in the kitchen with fruits and vegetables is a great place to start!
