Scooter Boards For Gross Motor Play and Motor Planning Skills
Funded Feb 4, 2022Thank you so much for supporting the kids I work with. This project took a bit of a happy twist. The original items became unavailable. The replacement items became unavailable. The 2nd set of replacement items have a little bit different of a focus but are just as useful, if not more, to the pre-K kids I work with. I bought a tandem tricycle, a new trampoline, a rocker board, and a foam soccer ball. A lot of items were purchased with the money donated and all will have a very significant impact.
We had an old trampoline, but it was falling apart and it had a very low weight limit. The new one is strong enough to both endure abuse and to allow therapists to jump on the trampoline with the children. This gives the kids a sense of the feeling, movement, and timing.
The tandem tricycle allows the therapists to ride behind the students, help propel and steer, all while being at the child's level. This will go a long way towards teaching kids to use a tricycle. I cannot thank you enough and all of the items have already been put to good use by many students and therapist.”

2 Tricycles for our Pre-k Program
Funded Nov 15, 2021The children ran to the tricycles before they were fully put together. Their level of participation and enthusiasm for working on this gross motor skill is truly remarkable. Not only are the getting healthy exercise, they are learning how to coordinate reciprocal patterns in their legs, how to keep focus on their task (they will bump the wall if they don't pay attentions). And, because it's fun, they are encouraged to put in the work, pay attention to what they are doing. It brings me joy to see these kids having appropriate opportunities to challenge themselves physically and I will continue to request funding for projects until this school has the full complement of equipment that they should. I extend you my deepest gratitude and appreciation.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Valhalla Foundation.Give our Pre-K Kids the Opportunity to Climb and Play
Funded Nov 15, 2021This equipment has already been put to excellent use. The pre-k children we serve have never been more engaged in their sessions and excited to participate in gross motor skill activities. Previously these children had NOTHING to climb, jump on and off of, and/or use as a balance beam. When in the play area I would watch the kids try to climb the fence which was frowned upon.
The OT at the school helped me put the items together. My first time walking into the room with the equipment set up brought me such great joy. There were children climbing, balancing, and using the Sit and Spin. They were using motor planning skills, challenging their balance, and learning how to map and navigate the world. This is an important start to make things right at this inner city school in Queens. I plan on continuing to add to our equipment through Donor's Choice until we have an appropriate set-up to properly serve these children. I can't thank you enough. Each piece of equipment in this project drew these kids in like a magnet.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Valhalla Foundation.Pre-K Balance Boards.
Funded Sep 29, 2021This has been such a useful item that I've used with so many of my students. It has helped to strengthen my students hips and helped teach them how to weight shift and balance. I've used it with children who have weakness due to cerebral palsy, coordination deficits, and balance issues.
I am so grateful for having this tool to help my students with a physical therapy mandate. The kids love using it and are eager to work hard in physical therapy when I bring this to the sessions with me.
Thank you so much!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Posner
