  • Building Connections Through Diversity and Inclusion!

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

My students and I appreciate your generous donation to our library. My students were given access to books about diversity, and inclusion, and were able to identify themselves via stories and characters that look very similar to them. These books have allowed students to learn about their feelings, learn about new experiences, and how to dream bigger by using real-life and imaginative ideas to enhance their own ideas.

Students are able to enter my classroom and see various options for learning about themselves, learning about how to manage their feelings, and simply engaging in a conversation about what they enjoy with their reading options. These opportunities would not be available without your contribution.

Thank you is not sufficient to express the access and window of opportunity you have given my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Varela

  • Creating a Safe and Welcoming Counseling Space

    Funded Sep 26, 2021

Thank you very much for your contributions to my Mental Health Office for students. I was able to decorate my office to create a welcoming and safe environment for my students. When students enter my office, they see bright colors, with motivational words, they see signs with feeling words, art supplies, they have access to books that promote mental health, and supplies for keeping clean and safe. One student in particular was able to share personal experiences after seeing my reaffirming room and identifying me as a safer person to talk to.

When students first saw my materials and welcoming room, they were excited and curious. They asked if they could use the materials to paint and to read. They asked questions about the books and how they can now learn more about mental health. My students expressed more interest in mental health and the sign in my room reminded them that this space is theirs.

I want to continue enhancing my room and always remind students that they have a safe and supportive mental health space on campus. I want to continue promoting meantl health to my students with the material provided by your generous dontation. Thank you and please know the grand impact you have made on my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Varela

When the Pandemic commenced, students lost over a year of social-emotional connection to other students and their worlds altered. Today as students make the adjustment to in person learning, they need a safe, welcoming, and encouraging space to feel heard, to process the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors associated with a safe return to school. As the school psychiatric social worker, it is my intention to provide students with a physical space where they can be validated, gain connection, and feel motivated. I am requesting your assistance to create this physical space.
