I like to create hands-on projects in my classroom with learning opportunities, so kids can manipulate objects when they're learning math, literacy and science. Most often, I print out pictures of objects, so students can count them or categorize or put them in order. This really helps them to engage in the activities because they are able to touch instead of just seeing it in a book. Due to COVID 19, the children are missing out on working in groups with their centers on a daily basis. When we print out their computer work in black and white, some of the magic of their creations disappears. I'd like them to be able to make individual ones they can use at school. Also, these hands-on activities can be used with their families while at home. Many families do not have internet or printer access at home. I would like to create file folder games and reading and math centers to use at school and home. Having pictures in colors would make the visual experience seem so real. They do their best to decipher the shades of gray in the photos, but things would be much clearer and more interesting if they had color. Also, I am teaching virtually and remotely at the same time. It is very hard for the students that are online to see the things that I am holding up when I'm in the classroom teaching the kids that are present. Having a color printer would relieve some of the pressure on the young students eyes. They would be able to see the objects clear wherever I'm located in the class.
