Students are beginning the work of writing personal statements, for college and for our class. They've been asked to reflect on powerful experiences and stories from their lives who have made them who they are today. Patrisse Cullors' memoir, "When They Call You a Terrorist," is a beautiful example of strong narrative writing with an impactful sense of purpose. It's a perfect "mentor text" for helping students learn to craft stories from their experiences. We want to use this text to help students identify elements of strong narrative, as well as to ignite important conversations about identity and social justice. Thank you for helping fund class copies of this amazing book!
