Nurturing Social and Emotional Growth for Small Group Counseling
Funded Nov 20, 2021This project has impacted students in counseling sessions at our school in many positive ways! Counselors have noticed that our students have benefited from playing the social emotional-themed games, "feelings and dealings," "behind the anger," "CBT 123" and "emotionoes" during small group counseling sessions as much as they have enjoyed them. We use them for conflict resolution, identifying feelings, strategy building and for strengthening interpersonal skills. The students have fun as they learn and grow into considerate and responsible young citizens. We've used the blank journals for gratitude writing and for goal-setting which kids enjoy as well.
My students were thrilled when we got our items delivered! They were eager to unwrap the posters, tape, and large letter cut outs. These additives have allowed us to personalize the counseling space into a student-centered, safe, bright, welcoming haven that the students look forward to spending time in each week.
The next steps for our students are working on their counseling portfolios as the end of the year approaches. The resources from this project have helped them explore healthy strategies for conflict and stress, which we keep for data and to track growth. We are excited to see how far they've come by the end of the year, and are so grateful we were able to provide this project for them and see them benefit from it.
Thank you from PS20!”

Find Safety and Zen in the Counseling Room
Funded Oct 5, 2021My students and I have truly enjoyed the supplies you brought into our counseling space. Thanks to you, we are surrounded by helpful tools, welcoming trinkets and bright artwork made by kids who are proud to recognize their work each time they walk inside. Our sensory toys have been awesome supplements for positive reinforcement, managing anxiety, play therapy and self-regulating.
When the kids first saw the materials, they were super excited! They've been able to be expressive themselves with the easy to use supplies donated by you. They each have their favorite toy fidget which they have named and built Lego homes for!
The next steps for my students are to continue expanding their social-emotional growth through integrating art and play. Presently, small group counseling and social support are most valuable as we live through a pandemic. We hope to continue to use creative methods using resources from this project and more. Thank you for opening the door to many ideas involving creative counseling that my students love!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Michelle and Lauren
