As a new teacher I am striving to build my classroom library. I am teaching at a brand new beautifully built school with no retired teacher leftover books to use. The books that I have requested will help to build my classroom library. It's important to have my students engage with books that are within and above their reading level. Through hand-me-downs, garage sales, and books from my childhood I have started to make a rich library. However, I am lacking books at my lower students' reading level. With receiving this donor's choice project I will be able to provide many more book choices to students who are reading at a slightly lower level.
Engaging my students with hands on learning is a critical aspect of my teaching. During math time my students learn in small groups, practice math facts, and play math games. The building toys like Legos and Magna-tiles will allow me to provide STEM engagement during our math game time, which will enrich their learning even further. It will give them an added edge as we learn about shapes, area and perimeter, and 3D objects. The math games will allow me to continue to engage the students in interesting ways. Currently most of the games my students get to play are paper made games that I have created myself. Involving board games and building materials will continue to hold my students interests.
