Breathe Life into our School Library with New Manga
Funded Apr 7, 2022I am writing to thank you for your generous donation to our library. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to purchase a number of manga books requested by our students. These books flew off the shelves within 24-hours. Students who have never checked out a book have checked out numerous Manga titles.
The presence of these new books have also attracted students to check out other types of books. It seems to have signaled to them that there are new and current books to be found in our library.
There is one student who is a newcomer to our school. Since transferring to our school two months ago she has read over 60 books. She checks out two Manga books every day and has nearly read our entire collection. These books provide a welcome escape for her and I am so glad I was able to provide her with some new titles.”
With gratitude,

Funded Dec 30, 2021I want to extend my sincere gratitude for your generosity in funding our library's new section of translated fiction. Providing popular books to our students in their home language not only gives them the opportunity to enjoy reading while taking a break from the constant need to translate, but it also sends the message that they are welcome and belong in our community.
We welcome new ELL arrivals at our school weekly. Part of their welcome includes a tour of the school and the library is often the first stop on that tour. This is an overwhelming moment for students, who may have only arrived in the U.S. days prior and typically speak little to no English. Our shelf of books in Spanish, Portuguese, and Arabic is the first thing I point out to them and it always makes them light up.
I love seeing students crowd around the language shelves. Providing multiple copies of popular books allows for friends to read the same book, which tends to encourage discussion and a deeper engagement with the text. Occasionally, students will check out both the English edition of a book and the translated text. This gives them the opportunity to practice their language skills.
None of these moments would have happened without your generosity. Your support means the world to me and my students!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kelleher
