  • Black History Month Read Aloud Books and Resources

    Funded Mar 6, 2023

Thank you so much for the amazing books! These non-fiction texts are a game changer in my classroom. The students are able to learn about figures in the African-American community. We were able to learn about people such as Mary Bowser, a civil war spy, as well as some more well known people like Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas, and Barak Obama.

These books are beautifully written and illustrated and keep the kids engaged. They are curious about these people and the things they have accomplished. After researching as a class students are able to choose one person who interested them and create their own report. This donation has resulted in so much learning.

    THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kleven

  • Teachers Pay Teachers Gift Card - Gift of Time

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

This gift of Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards and time has truly made an impact on my students and myself. We have been able to purchase some amazing supplemental resources for our book clubs, class writing projects, as well as some fun math activities. These resources allow us as a class to dig deeper and enrich our learning each and every day.

Thank you again for your generous donation to our class! Our extra projects and supplies are not possible with out your generosity. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

  • The Land of Stories - Class Set

    Funded Nov 28, 2022

This has been such an amazing gift to my class! We all read through the LAND OF STORIES THE WISHING SPELL together as a class and marveled at the full color pictures!

We also completed a comprehension page together as a class at the end of each chapter to further our understanding of the story and start engaging conversations around this amazing book.

At the end of the book my students participated in a grade level wide party to culminate and celebrate their learning. We called it the Fairy Tale Ball and discussed how the traditional fairy tales were represented and changed in the Land of Stories version.

Your gift has meant the world to our class!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kleven

  • Teachers Pay Teachers Gift Card - the Gift of Time

    Funded Feb 17, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation!

I have already been able to purchase a variety of resources on Teachers Pay Teachers to help support my students across many subject areas. The most exciting is Math and ELA escape rooms! The class LOVES these and spend time collaborating and working hard to master these tough concepts. Bonus they don't realize how hard they are working because its fun!

The next planned purchase is a Writing Journal set and fast finisher options to keep my early finishers engaged in the learning.

Thank you again for your donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kleven

  • Third Grade Read Aloud Books

    Funded Oct 28, 2021

The gift of class read aloud books has meant SO MUCH to myself and my third grade class. We have enjoyed using these stories each week to dive deep and practice our comprehension skills. These read aloud books have helped to provide ALL students, not just my grade level readers, an opportunity to stretch their comprehension skills and really start to understand how to use what we are learning in our reading.

I can not begin to tell you how much I appreciate your generous gift and how much this will continue to positively impact not only this year and this third grade class but my future classes as well.

    THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kleven

In our classroom, we use weekly read alouds to practice the reading strategy and comprehension skill of the week. Reading aloud to students allows them to listen to a fluent reader, thus building their listening vocabulary. It is my hope that using read alouds will help struggling readers access the comprehension strategy by providing them an opportunity to practice their skills with an oral story and not be dependent on their current independent reading level. If we want kids to be good readers, we must help them fall in love with reading One of the greatest ways is to read aloud great books.
