The materials will make a tremendous difference in the student's learning. Childhood is a critical time for growth and development, and snacks provide important nutrients that students need between meals. I believe a well-scheduled snack break will increase the student's ability to concentrate and focus with improved academic, behavioral, and emotional functioning in both home and school settings. The student will increase a sense of awareness of how snacks fuel the body and improve the ability to function throughout the day. The student can advocate for nutritional snacks and increase self-confidence and self-esteem. Students need a steady supply of nutrients to fuel their bodies and brains to grow and develop properly. Snacks are not only important for the students’ physical health, but emotional health as well. Snack breaks improves students’ cognition, concentration and energy level; decreases anxiety, headaches, stomachaches & some behaviors issues when completing various tasks. Children have higher nutrient demands than adults, to support their healthy bone growth & brain development. Let’s think, we are told as adults to eat 5 small meals to maintain healthy weight & improved our ability to function (concentration, glycemic index) throughout the day, therefore who am I to deprive students the same opportunity. I have decided to put this theory to the test by implementing well-timed nutritional snack schedule and believe it has improved student’s self-esteem/confidence.
