Creating a Reason to Try
Funded Nov 21, 2021My students and I enjoyed all the materials donated to the classroom. The snacks provided a great incentive for the students to give more engagement and effort in class which also helped the students retain information. The art materials were used to make personal folders for the students' notes, to engage in creative assignments, and to create visual aids to help the students understand the new material.
The students were most excited about the snacks because they all stated that they'd never had a teacher to provide incentives past small candy and they students really were appreciative of them. The art supplies had some students become a bit hesitant because they didn't feel they were the best artist, however, some students set aside that fear and created some awesome material. The students and I enjoyed making more ideas of how to learn Algebra 2 because it made the content more approachable then they felt it was before.
Now that summer is bringing school to a close, I don't have any projects being prepared at this time. But for the next year, I do plan to find ways to make art more interesting since I will be taking on a new curriculum to teach. I strive to make art relaxing and enjoyable for everyone whether they have a knack for it or not. Art therapy is very soothing for all ages.
We are so grateful to our sponsors for helping out with getting my classroom up and running for my first year! Thank you to each and everyone who participated in my first project to supply my students in my first year of teaching.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Washington
