My students missed most of their entire first year of in-person Kindergarten due to the pandemic. Some of my students did not attend Kindergarten at all. They were not able to play and build with their friends or with other students. They did not problem-solve together or be get to be creative with each other. Their ability to pay attention and focus on their learning has been compromised due to not being in a regular classroom setting. I know that a classroom full of STEM activities will not only increase their focusing and problem-solving skills, but also support students in learning how to work as a team. I am a first-year teacher of a first-grade classroom that is in need of sufficient STEM materials, which will inspire students to design and build together. STEM activities will be used daily to increase focusing stamina, spark creativity, and teach students how to work as a team. They will learn how to problem solve together through trial and error. The new materials will be fun, interactive, and will keep students motivated to successfully complete their projects. Problem solving is a life skill and if it is nurtured when students are young, they will be more successful in school and able to handle challenging situations as they occur throughout their lifetime.
