Having a sand and water table in my classroom will help my students enormously; they will be able to have hands-on materials and take in new information through their senses. This sensory experience can assist some of my students with calming down their bodies when they are upset. They will also work on social skills and language skills at the water table as this is a popular area for young children they will have to share and take turns. They will also work on moving from independent play to playing with one another to be able to build sand castles and have sea animals talk to each other. This also help with language development as it give the teachers plenty of opportunities to talk to students about their creations and pretend play between the teacher and student as well as peer interaction. Sand and water tables not only promote the social, sensory and language piece that my students direly need to be successful it also promotes academic gains for them as well . They will be able to explore math concepts such as more and less, measurements to fill larger containers and creating shapes and structures. We will awaken a little scientist by introducing science concepts with sink and float activities, living and non living items as well as animal habitats.
