Studies show time after time that the single most important activity for building reading success is reading aloud to young children! It is my goal as an educator to not only give my students the tools to learn how to read but also help to foster a lifelong love of books. Seeing my student's faces light up with suspense, laughter, and intrigue while I read a book for fun is one of my favorite moments in our busy day. I still remember my own teachers reading aloud stories just for fun. It was in these moments, away from the structured lesson plans, that I remember falling in love with a good book. As a former struggling reader, I didn't have many opportunities to enjoy books for fun. Having stories read aloud to me changed all of that. I hope to do the same for my students as well.
