The materials I have selected will be beneficial for calming students. Sensory stimulation is necessary for students who present with social anxiety, hyperactivity, low arousal, tactile insecurity and a host of other sensory processing delays. I am trying to make this Sensory Room, a safe place for students to engage in self directed play, while learning new skills. After having such a difficult year last year; students will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of calming tools. This type of stimulation is important for development and can be used to promote well being. Occupational Therapy will help children fulfill their role as students by supporting their academic, sensory skills and social emotional regulation; promoting positive behaviors necessary for learning.
