Transitional Kindergarten requires lessons to have fluidity and purpose. For this to happen, classroom materials must be available for little hands to touch, manipulate, and explore. The requested materials will help my Daily Math Chat mean so much more than just words and pictures. The materials requested for my classroom are concrete tools used for building fine motor skills while simultaneously reinforcing math concepts. Whiteboards, markers, sliding number lines, and counters will be used during our math lessons where number sense can come to life in the hands of a four-year-old. Modeling with mini erasers or brain flake flowers will allow numbers to be placed on a ten frame as students subitize, count on, or adjust counters as they build and rebuild to increase their understanding. Organizing lesson materials with pouches will encourage independence and easy access to tools that are stored and ready to use each day. Your donation will increase my students’ number sense as daily systematic lessons merge with donated resources. The “chat” or talk will not end with the words of the math lesson. Instead, your donation will build the foundation for a stronger learner who can show what they know rather than just talk about it.
