  • Prizes for Educational Games!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

Although we got off to a slow start, September was a busy month for Library Centers! In September our math, English, and elective teachers came in to teach content using a variety of educational games and their students were rewarded with the prizes that you all helped me to purchase!

Everyone likes to play games, but middle school students (and probably most adults!) want a prize when they win! It was so refreshing not to have to purchase these prizes out of my own pocket this year! When I surveyed my students as to what they wanted as prizes, it was about 50-50 candy and wristbands - so we got both!

Seeing their eyes light up when winning these educational games was indescribable! They were so excited! I can't thank you enough for helping me make the day of my middle schoolers, you are the best!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Haas

  • Using Games to Teach Math

    Funded May 7, 2024

Thank you so much for your support in providing the materials to create math centers in the library! Collaborating with my math teachers has been an extraordinary experience. Many people don't often think of math and library in the same sentence, but there are many kinds of literacies, and math is definitely one of them!

Research has shown that "gamifying" instruction has a significant impact on student learning - and retention. With these materials we have created a number line to graph inequalities, played Integer War, and of course, had several rounds of highly competitive Battleship!

Playing these games helps reinforce the skills that they've learned in their math classrooms, but there are other benefits as well. Our students are also learning to work with others, resilience and even time management as our library centers are usually timed! I can't thank you enough for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Haas

  • Look! A Book Nook!

    Funded Oct 14, 2023

I can not thank you enough for funding my "Look, A Book Nook" project! As most of us can recall, middle school can be a tough time for a lot of kids. Getting them to read on top of that can be especially difficult! With this new furniture you have helped to create a coffee shop atmosphere that is conducive to reading!

My scholars were involved in every step of this project, from picking out the furniture that they wanted, to helping to put it together to picking the book they wanted to read for the first time, they were steering the ship. As the research shows, when students have choice they are always more successful! Thank you for providing them the opportunity to choose their new Book Nook! Happy reading!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Haas

  • 3D Doodle All Day Long

    Funded Jun 7, 2022

On behalf of myself and my scholars, I would like to thank you for your generous support of this project!

The first class to use the 3D Doodlers was a 6th grade math class. They were so excited to see the pens! Figuring out how to use them took a bit of a learning curve, which is part of the process! But once they mastered the technique, they were able to create 3 dimensional figures for their assignment!

I was also able to use them as a learning station with a 7th grade class. This class had a little more freedom to explore! As you will see in one of the pictures, one scholar made puzzle pieces! Again, this 3D Doodler allows our scholars to be creative while still following a curriculum!

Our next stop is our 8th grade Geometry class where our scholars will be creating angles! Thank you again for supporting our scholars!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Haas

  • When The Dining Room Becomes A Classroom

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

This year has been very stressful! It is hard to imagine that just a year ago, I was teaching in the library, having students create projects, and spending the end of every day cleaning up the mess! Now all projects are through Zoom and I don't have any mess to clean up! Who would have thought I would miss the mess?!

Your generous donation has brought me that much closer to my students. Being virtual is tough on everyone, but with your gifts, we have found a way to connect, through technology! The microphone allows me to be heard and the stands mean that I'm not confined to teaching just sitting at the table!

Rest assured that we are trying our very best to get through this rough time! Your donation to my project allows me to try different ways to engage my students! Your support is priceless during this pandemic! I thank you, my students thank you! Without you, I don't know what I would have done! With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I want to say, "I am thankful for you!"”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Haas

  • Breakout Edu For The Library!

    Funded Sep 1, 2018

Thank you so much for contributing to the FIVE new Breakout Box kits for the library! Students are so engaged in solving the puzzles. They have been excited to find out what waits for them in the final box! They have used picture locks, digital games and invisible ink as they learn science, history and math!

Eighth grade students were especially stoked to play a game where they had to decipher the branches of the government and their specific jobs to unlock a box. They were so surprised to find a bookmark waiting for them!

Please know that your donation has made a huge difference in the lives of many middle school students! You rock!”

  • iPad Makes a Library Mobile!

    Funded Mar 13, 2018

Receiving this iPad has had a tremendous impact on our library program! It has allowed our students to:

    * take pictures of the projects that they create in the library

    * have a Skype interview with author Patricia Forde

    * check out books outside of the library

    * participate in virtual field trips

    * document school activities

Being able to take the iPad wherever I go in the school building has been such a luxury. Students love using it to take pictures of whatever they are working on. And it was so much fun to have a Skype interview with a real, live AUTHOR!!! Thank you so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Haas
