Book Bonanza!
Funded Jun 10, 2022Reading is the core of education. In my classroom, I choose the books that I believe will engage the students and get them excited about reading. Novels such as Number the Stars, Holes, and Hatchet are favorites among my students each year. Since class sizes are increasing, I needed more novels (and novels that were not falling apart because my novels were 20 years old!) I use these novels to teach reading strategies such as making connections, inferencing, noticing and analyzing author's craft. I teach my student to "look for signs" of flashbacks, characterization, or simply places in the novel where we stop and ask ours questions as readers.
Sometimes I read aloud to the students, and at other times, they may read to themselves. In my classroom, we also work in Literature Circles. You will see that in the pictures I attached. Students in that group are reading the same chapter in a novel, and working on different roles (such as Character Captain, Connector Commander, Discussion Director, Signpost Searcher, Passage Picker, Inside Investigator, and Artful Artist) that they will then share with the group. These books give every student the chance to experience this!
The other gift I am grateful for is the class set of clipboards. We work in groups and sometimes the groups go to stations around the room. When we were observed by administrators, one of them suggested clipboards for the students so they would have to lean on floor or wall to work. Many students had a difficult time moving from station to station and holding their papers and/or novels. It was a great suggestion and now we are SET for Literature Circles and buddy learning forever!! Thank you to the best PTA and Donors Choose!!! This teacher appreciates it tremendously!!”

Printing Supplies!
Funded Nov 8, 2021The printer and ink I received is absolutely amazing and very helpful! First of all, my students were very excited to add color pictures and graphics to their informational reports about saving the rainforest. Upon researching, the students learned about what was happening in this endangered ecosystem and many of the photos helped them understand the concepts they were learning about. They were excited to add these photos to their reports , especially since they would be in color and therefore be more impactful. They were thrilled to print out their final reports!
Secondly, some of my students who struggle with writing, were able to feel more confident about their work because they were proud of the graphics and maps they were able to print out and add to their reports. They felt the graphics helped them express their ideas.
In addition, I have a student who needs worksheets and tests printed in large print. I am able to use the printer to copy tests in larger print so she is able to see what we are learning. She is extremely excited to have this technology in our room.
So, thank you very much for this printer and this project which supplied the extra ink. It is very much appreciated by all my students and myself.”

Funded Sep 12, 2021I received my lap top last week and I was so excited. The computer I have hasn't been updated in years and it is very rare that we get new equipment. I have linked my new lap top up to my smart board and it is great!!
Now, I use it for all my Reading, Writing, Math, and Social Studies lessons. I am able to play the math videos that coincide with the topic. I am also able to have the students listen to the Social Studies text while looking at the text. It's definitely easier to use and I'm no longer worried about my old one breaking down.
The students are also excited about it. I allow students to use it if they don't have their device with them. They also use it to do research about different topics we discuss. The entire class has benefitted from the new laptop. So, thank you so much for funding this project because it makes teaching much easier!!!”
