The goal of this project is to engage scholars in designing, building, and modeling the home of their dreams. Scholars will need to draw on their families' lived experiences to create a home that meets everyone's needs. These needs will guide their thinking when building the home (overall layout, architectural appearance) and determining the location (schools, workplace). Scholars will be placed in groups of three to four to complete this project. Though each scholar will create their individual homes, they work in teams to learn from each other through brainstorming, discussions, and feedback. Laser cutters and 3D printing technologies require the learning of brainstorming, strategizing, sketching, editing, prototyping, modeling, iterative feedback, and finally 3D printing and laser cutting. With the use of a 3D printer and laser cutter, my students will be able to create a physical model, using the technologies professionals use.
