The library is no longer just a place to check out books. It is a multi-faceted space that seeks to offer a variety of tools to help students to become their best selves but also, to escape reality when needed. Sometimes that is in the form of a book about a dystopian world. Other times that is through a chess match, writing poetry, or a game of Uno Flip. Presently, I would like to create a gaming space in a corner of the library. I have already been gifted a PS4 and Xbox One. I am seeking assistance in acquiring a monitor, gaming chairs, and locking cabinet to hold the systems and controllers. I have also included a few decoration pieces, but they are additions and not mandatory. I have found in watching students play video games as well as researching the effects that gaming can have on youth that it can increase memory, help with problem-solving and critical thinking, as well as help focus students with ADD. Violent games will not be allowed; this gaming space will be used to support the educational goals of the school. Students will have access to Minecraft, National Geographic, Spellspire, and Stardew Valley to name a few.
