  • Blast Off in the Library!

    Funded May 12, 2023

Thank you again so much for your generosity! We reopened the library three weeks ago for the school year and I created a special display using the brand new space books that this project funded.

Students are ecstatic to have these new books and I've been told several times how much they enjoy reading about the planets, stars, and all things space! This has brought a much needed HUGE update to our non-fiction section so that students can have the most up to date information when they read about space.

One of my long term goals for our library is to transform our non-fiction section from a reading for research library to a reading for pleasure library and these books are going a long way already to help us meet these goals and growing our student readers. Thanks again for making a difference at our school!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kwiecinski

  • Keep Kids Reading All Summer Long

    Funded May 5, 2022

Unfortunately we weren't able to have any book fairs last year and many of our students may not have access to books of their own at home. Your donation not only provided books for our 6th graders to read over the summer, but they provided titles that were new and exciting that we don't have here at our library. Their faces were ecstatic when they saw all of the brand new books waiting for them and they were so excited when they realized that these books were theirs to keep.

I had chosen this grade in particular because they are at the age where they are beginning to seek out books meant for middle school students and we don't have as many young adult titles available in our school library since the rest of the school population is younger. It was so wonderful to be able to give them this gift of reading and learning and this wouldn't have been possible without your help! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

  • Growing Readers through Graphic Novels & Non-Fiction

    Funded Nov 1, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my Donor's Choose Project. The goal of this project was to incorporate more high interest graphic novels and non-fiction into our collection so that students could really become engaged in their reading here at school and at home, as well as be able to use the books for their Accelerated Reading Program.

Upon receiving the new books, I processed them so they could be checked out to students and included the AR reading levels and points on their spine labels so that our upper elementary kids could use this information while browsing. I keep all of the books in one section on display in the library and kids have absolutely LOVED the Science Comics collection, along with Dork Diaries, the Guts and Glory books, and the Hard as Nails collection. By presenting them with reading selections that hold their attention and speak to their interests, they are earning points in their reading incentive programs, learning about science and history, and growing their love of reading which I hope will follow them for many years to come.

Thank you again for helping our students become the best readers they can be! We couldn't have done it with out you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kwiecinski

These books will be used during weekly library visits and checked out to students to help develop their reading skills through targeted, high interest, non-fiction and graphic novel titles. The students who will be checking out these titles are a part of an AR reading program and they use their library books within the program, both at home and at school. It is important that we continue to develop our library collection by engaging our students in active learning through non-fiction titles that are relevant to their interests to help motivate them to grow both as readers and students. Graphic novels are also an important part of this project, because they easily encourage even the most reluctant of readers to reach for a book in the library.
