Oak Street Elementary is a Title One school in the city of Inglewood, California. As a school and district, funding is oftentimes a struggle with many teachers dipping into their pockets to help aid students in a low income neighborhood. After eighteen months of virtual learning and having instruction on Zoom, students are eager to get hands-on materials to work with. Unfortunately, without a school copier, we are forced once again to rely heavily on electronic tools. While technology is great and enhances learning in many ways, tactile lessons and a print-rich environment bring learning to life. As an example, students are forced to create their own graphic organizers whereas in years past, printed materials were provided to them. Having a classroom printer will go a long way to solving many of our daily issues and ensures that students obtain the very best education. Additionally, the wonderful lessons from TeachersPayTeachers make for great ancillary tools for learning. Differentiating instruction, through the use of supplemental tools, is the key to equity in the classroom. Every child deserves to be given the proper tools to maximize their learning potential.
