Flexible seating allows students the freedom of choice when it comes to their own learning environment and making positive choices toward their own learning. In our classroom, we currently have a small reading nook, a "soul spa" that supports a calming area for students who may need an emotional break in class, and desks that are elevated at different heights. When students work independently, or with a partner, they gravitate toward the reading nook, the floor, working under their desks, or finding a corner to complete their work. When provided the freedom to choose where they want to work, I've found success in my own students' ability to complete their tasks and stay engaged in lessons.
When given "magic" seating, students are more engaged and more willing to complete their work, express themselves, and take more risks with their learning.
The products I have selected will provide my students with more options when it comes to flexible seating in our classroom, which will in turn deepen our classroom culture and create a more fun and active learning environment. The two stools that are height adjustable will be used at our standing tables, the two balance seats will be used for students who require the extra sensory needs of seating in seat, and the lowered desk with floor chairs will provide students with the option of working at various levels.
Through flexible seating, it will take our class on an adventure of moving away from a "standard" classroom, and direct it toward a learner centered, and learner focused room that is inviting and invigorating.
