As we strive to help encourage and develop well rounded students, we must ensure we are providing a healthy and safe environment that enables growth and the growth mindset. We want to teach students how to care for and grow plants to improve their environment. The environment we maintain directly affects our rate for growth and our desire to move forward. Brining plant life into the classroom will not only help restore and maintain the health and safety of the classroom it will hold the students accountable to putting in deliberate intention and energy into the remainder of their high school. During this pandemic, we have been challenged to apply abstract concepts to shared spaces. We have seen zoom graduations, drive through lines for materials pick up, and socially distanced senior celebrations. As we transition back on to campus, we are finding ourselves facing these challenges on a wider spectrum. On average a teacher will have between 125 - 150 students in a school year; not including the students serviced through clubs, sports, or additional extra-curriculars. With this new appreciation for social space it has become a professional goal to shift our classroom using the Reggio inspired class model. Our students' lives are reflected in the curriculum and day to day task. We have used this past year to redefine education online, reshape our avenues of communication, and struggle to awkwardly re-socialize. The objective presently is to increase the amount of plant life in our immediate environment to reduce the anxiety and stress as the number of student activity increase. Plants actively reduce airborne harmful contaminants in addition to increasing oxygen level; leading to a 10-15% increase in productivity and concentration. We want to create a homely and safe environment by using air purifying plant life to help reduce the sound levels and stress levels.
