• Books abound!

  Thank you so much for supporting learning in my classroom! Research shows that one of the best ways for students to grow in their reading ability is to get time in text—and the books that you funded help to encourage my students to get into books! By having books that my students are interested in reading, I have seen an increase in excitement for reading. I've seen students choose books over computers during indoor recess or other more flexible times.

  As a teacher, it feels good to know that I have a library that makes reading accessible to all of my students. That's something I couldn't provide without the support of community partners like you!”

• Falling in Love With Reading

  The addition of these books to my classroom has been priceless! I love seeing my students earn free choice time and choosing to read instead of computer time :) I have students completing their work and asking if they can read their books, which makes my heart smile.

  The fact that my students are able to follow a series and familiar characters has also been really beneficial as far as building excitement for reading and a desire to continue.

• We Want Whiteboards

  Thank you so much for supporting our classroom this year. The whiteboards that we received have been absolutely invaluable! The big whiteboard that is in the front of the room next to our screen. It allows students to see information on the board while also being able to participate and demonstrate for the rest of the class by doing work on the whiteboard. It's a place where instructions can be posted while students participate in activities on the screen such as nearpods. It's a place where I can differentiate instruction by giving different instructions for different groups.

  The individual whiteboards are used in whole group to allow students to write their own opinions and also to show their work. They are also regularly used during small groups where students are participating in more individualized instruction with immediate feedback.

  The additional supplies have been important for my students feeling welcomed to a positive and organized classroom. I've used the owl charts to create a positive reinforcement system that matches the overall theme of the classroom. Students love it!”

• Let Students Hear Themselves Reading

  Funded May 6, 2022

  Thank you so much for your support! My students worked so hard last year to improve their reading skills and being able to send each of them home with a book of multiple fun stories was huge for making sure that learning and practice could continue through the summer. Elephant and Piggie books were a popular choice from our classroom library so I am confident that sending those books home would encourage my students to keep using those skills during the summer. When I handed each student their own huge book, they were thrilled. I saw students excitedly showing their parents and siblings when they were picked up on the last day of school. I could not have provided that without your support. In addition to those gifts, you funded a class set of toobaloos. These have been so important for students hearing themselves read without distracting or disrupting others. They will continue to be used for future classes!”

• Creative Hands-On Recess

  Thank you so much for supporting our classroom! The new supplies that I was able to pick out for my classroom have made indoor recess so much happier. The first time they saw the additions to the building toys that they love using so much, they cheered because they were so excited. I love that they are able to spend that time practicing working together in small groups toward common building goals. It's been super helpful that we now have different options of building materials that can be set up around the room so that more students can play each time. I also love that students are practicing geometry skills while they are playing :)”

• Learning Life Skills in Second Grade

  Funded Nov 16, 2021

  The learning clocks and magnetic money that were provided by these funds, were incredibly helpful! They arrived just before we started these units in math and made a huge difference in the way that my students were able to connect with these concepts in tactile and authentic ways!

  When learning about time, these clocks let students see the relationship between minutes and hours and to recognize how the minute hand may be very close to the next hour, but that doesn't mean that the hour has changed yet. Without seeing how the hands changed on these little clocks, I'm confident that this concept would have been far more difficult to grasp.

  The magnetic coins gave me the ability to put coins on the whiteboard that all students could see at the same time. Being able to physically move and sort them in full view of the class helped students to learn to count their value.”

• Individualized Projects and Activities

  Thank you so much for supporting my classroom by providing funding for teachers pay teachers gift cards. These have allowed me to purchase supplementary supplies for my students to access in small groups. They have made it so much more efficient for me to plan for my students based on each of their individual strengths and areas of concern. I have seen progress from each of my students by doing this! In addition, the gift cards have allowed me to be more mindful when it has been necessary to plan for a substitute teacher. The materials that I can provide have been much better-suited to make days with a substitute more effective and keep the class on-track with their learning even when I haven't been able to be there. Thank you so much for this level of support--it has been incredible!”

• Headphones Will Help Build Reading Skills

  Funded Sep 8, 2021

  Thank you so much for funding my project that included purchasing headphones for each student in my class to use. These headphones have allowed my students to work independently on individualized reading intervention programs while I work with small groups to make progress with their fluency, writing, and comprehension. This has led to my students showing growth in their able to read fluently. One of my students in particular has gone from knowing 0 letter names or sounds to being able to read CVC words with the assistance of these programs and small group interventions. I am hoping to continue to expand the programs that students are able to use in order to continue that level of growth!”
