  • Coding with Critters

    Funded Aug 5, 2024

Our students have absolutely loved using these robots during our club time in the library. The dragon Coding Critter is so neat because you can switch it to directional coding mode or spell mode where students can type in codes for the dragon to complete a task.

These robots encourage students to problem solve, work together, inquire and so much more. We have used the robots with coding grids that are zoo themed, space themed, and Halloween themed so far. Not only are the students having fun with this but they are also learning.”

  • Building With Bloxels

    Funded May 24, 2024

Thank you so much for contributing to this building with bloxels project. Our students have really enjoyed being able to build, create, and collaborate together. Not only can our students build with the blocks but we also now have access to the digital subscription where students can make their own video games and video game characters. Our learners have really enjoyed being able to use their imagination to create new worlds and explore these worlds together. Once students create their own worlds, they have the ability to explore each others worlds. Thank you for making this possible!”

  • Listening Center With Tonies Play Characters

    Funded Jan 11, 2024

The introduction of a new Tonies listening center in our library has proven to be an invaluable resource, offering patrons of all ages an immersive and enriching auditory experience. With its diverse collection of audio content, ranging from classic stories to educational materials and music, the Tonies system has become a cornerstone of our library's offerings. Its user-friendly interface and interactive figurines have made it accessible to children and adults alike, providing a novel way to engage with literature and learning. The listening center has not only sparked a newfound enthusiasm for storytelling and exploration but has also served as a catalyst for literacy development and language acquisition. Moreover, it has fostered a sense of community within our library, providing a shared space for individuals to come together and embark on auditory adventures. In essence, the Tonies listening center has not only expanded our library's resources but has also enriched the lives of those who frequent our space, opening doors to new worlds and possibilities through the power of sound.”

  • But First, Let Me Take a Book "shelf-ie"

    Funded Dec 31, 2023

The addition of a Polaroid camera to our library resources has been nothing short of transformative, offering patrons a unique and tangible way to capture memories and moments. With its instant printing capability, the camera has become a beloved tool for documenting events, preserving fleeting experiences, and fostering a sense of community among library visitors. Beyond its practical use, the camera has sparked creativity and engagement, inspiring individuals of all ages to explore the art of photography and storytelling. Its presence has revitalized our space, turning it into a hub of creativity and connection. In essence, the Polaroid camera has not only enriched our library offerings but has also become a symbol of the enduring power of analog technology in a digital age, reminding us of the magic that lies in capturing moments in a tangible, immediate form.”

  • Little Library, Big Readers

    Funded Apr 24, 2023

Thank you so much for donating towards our very own little library for our school. Having a free Little Library outside our school will provide even more literacy to our students but also to our community. Considering the location of our school in Downtown Charleston, we always have many people walk past our school each day. By promoting our little library, we hope to encourage reading and inspire others to give and take books as well.

This project promotes literacy, community, and giving back. Thank you for helping this dream become reality!”

  • Storytelling With Puppets

    Funded Aug 25, 2023

Thank you so much for your meaningful and much appreciated donations towards our school library. Our students are really engaging using the puppets to retell stories and create their own stories. Not only are our younger pre-school students engaging this center, but our upper grades as well!

Having hands on learning is so important and is something that our students will remember as part of the library for years to come. The puppets have encouraged shyer students to engage with classmates and share their ideas through a unique outlet.”

  • Stamps, Puzzles, and Books... Oh My!

    Funded Dec 13, 2022

With your help, I have provided my students with access to new, relevant, and inspiring books. Students are able to see themselves in the books almost as if looking in a mirror. Not only that, but they are also able to use these books as windows into other diverse cultural representations.

Reading in the library looks different to every student. If you were to come into our library you would see students reading at desks, reading on the carpet, and reading in our reading nook with pillows and cushions.

Students who are drawn for our weekly IB attributes in action drawing. Each student that is drawn if given a choice of new books to choose from. This helps them create their own libraries at home. Thank you for all of your support and generous donations!”

  • There Are Makers Among Us

    Funded Nov 6, 2021

This donation has meant so much for my students. I have created a fun and creative space for my CD (preschool) students to build and engineer using developmentally appropriate tools such as the felt wall and playdoh. My students also have so much fun with the big legos. I use the smaller legos with older students but the young students really enjoy tinkering with the bigger legos and collaborating with each other. They were so excited when they first saw the new materials in the library. Soon we will be using the felt squares to recreate book characters. With these felt book characters we will practice retelling stories.”
