Reading Is Our Secret Weapon!

I (WE) cannot thank you enough for your generosity in providing my class a set the chapter book, Holes. As they called me down to the office with the great news that our package had arrived, the excitement in their faces was one of the most amazing experiences. I am proud to say that my group not only has gained and practiced empathy this year but also are self-driven and ready to make me proud at all times. I have one hard working group! With that being said, Mathematics seems to be a forte for my group. More than half of them light up as our 60 minute block of Math begins....they had no idea that I would drop a new seed in them this year. The seed of READING! I have implanted little by little, day by day a new book, a new adventure, a new something to look forward to in our 90 minute block. I begin our day with grammar and transition into Reading and the skills and strategies to use as they read new passages. Finally, it is our time as a whole group to begin reading our new books, we discuss, we read aloud, we compare characters, and go over flashback, and dialogue. I cannot wait until I show them the movie so they can compare and contrast a book and a movie. Which details are they missing? Did the movie eliminate anything? What was the moral of the story?! Oh, I can continue all day. This message is just a huge THANKS to you for allowing me to open a new world to my students. For the love of reading. Thank you for all that you do.”
