Gone are the days of endless lectures, boring worksheets, and rote memorization. Today's students need to be involved in active, engaging, problem-based learning that develops critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Albert Einstein admonishes, "Play is the highest form of research." By expanding the standards-based gaming that I bring to the classroom, I will continue to open new doors of learning for my students. The lockboxes and padlocks will become intricate parts of numerous escape rooms, challenging my students to apply their skills and knowledge across subjects as they race to succeed. The computer mice will provide greater manageability for success on platforms such as Minecraft EDU, where students can show their science, math, and other learning in real-world applications. Traditional games, such as Kerplunk, transform review and knowledge communication into interactive experiences across the curriculum, with the added benefit of developing social skills in the process. With these supplies, standards-based gaming will continue to promote higher learning experiences for my students!
