These flexible seating items will be used in my classroom to help my students eliminate tension and focus on their work. The unfortunate reality is that the pandemic and distance learning have made it even more challenging for active children to sit in one place to learn in the classroom setting when they were used to accessing virtual lessons in a way that worked best for them.
My students truly want to learn, but many do not thrive in an environment that forces them to be sedentary. Unfortunately, my school does not have a physical education teacher to help mitigate this. Although they have recess time and movement breaks between lessons, I want to give them a tool to help them self-soothe their wiggles. I once worked in an office, and struggled myself with the physical toll that sitting in a chair for much of the day put on my body. It's simply not natural to sit in hard chairs with backs!
I of course provide as many ways as possible for my students to move, but want to do so in a way that doesn't further the academic regression that the pandemic has caused. I am hard-pressed for academic time during the school day, but want to be responsive to my students' need to move. Any contributions to this fund will help revolutionize my students' education!
