  • Middle School ELA Books & Basics

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Thank you very much for your support for this project. My students have been enjoying the materials provided to our classroom.

New classroom library books are always greatly appreciated. Students can access a citywide digital library, but there is still great value in having physical copies of appealing titles stocked in the classroom that students can browse through and sign out to borrow. I like providing students with books that connect with our shared texts, also, so for example if a student enjoyed the excerpt of "The Breadwinner" that we read as a class, then now they can read the full text and even explore other books in this series involving the same characters.

The additional classroom supplies have also been very useful. The large chart paper is great for group projects, like when students collaborated in class to create their own utopias before we read the novel "The Giver." The pencils are needed on a daily basis by my middle school students. And the band-aids have been a big hit as well; students from neighboring rooms even stop by my classroom sometimes because they know that I will have a bandage handy for anyone who needs one.

Your support and generosity is sincerely appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Terranova

  • STEM Titles for the Classroom Library

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation of STEM-themed books for our 6th grade classroom library. These new and engaging books make students want to read more. Kids can learn about activist Greta Thunberg, a young person like them who is rallying to protect the environment NOW, not later. They can also learn about current topics like Fast Fashion, or read fictional stories featuring animals like The One and Only series. Giving students a wide variety of interesting and age-appropriate titles to choose from is a sure fire recipe to increase independent reading and enthusiasm in the classroom. Thanks again for your support!”

  • Back to School ELA Classroom Refresh

    Funded Oct 31, 2024

Thank you so much for the two awesome new bookcases you have brought to my classroom. Our hardworking custodial staff was able to assemble them over the Winter Break, and now students have easier access to browse and borrow titles from the classroom library. Independent reading is so important in every grade, and these bookcases are helping 6th grade students select books to read on their own every day, so thank you again for your generous support!

The tissues have also been a big help in the classroom. These are not supplied by the school, but they are always needed and used daily by students throughout the year. The colored pens and bulletin board items are also great additions to the classroom. Your kindness and generosity in making a tangible difference every day for students is sincerely appreciated :)”

  • Fall in Love with Reading in 6th Grade

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

Please accept my sincere thanks for sponsoring my project "Fall in Love with Reading in 6th Grade." My students have been enjoying all of the materials your support has provided for our classroom.

The new black desk dividers have been a practical and time-saving resource. They are in great shape, and having each student be able to use an assigned and numbered desk divider has been very helpful in making sure these new desk dividers will last beyond this year for future groups of students to enjoy as well.

After students returned today from Winter Break, I've been sharing the awesome Reading Log bookmarks as a fun way for kids to track the new books they are reading in the new year 2025. And the classroom library has seen many readers checking out the new books that you helped put into students' hands. After our 6th grade trip to see the film version of "The Wild Robot" this fall, that series has been very popular among all classes. Students are also enjoying the graphic novels and other books, too.

Thank you again for your generous donation!”

  • Putting the Art in ELA

    Funded Mar 27, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation of arts-and-crafts materials to enrich our 6th grade ELA classroom.

The paper hearts were used in a project where students illustrated them to share a favorite book, author, or genre that they love. Students really liked this project, and they enjoyed sharing their choice with classmates and being able to see other students' work displayed around the classroom. It was a great way to share book recommendations, too, to give students ideas for new titles and authors that they might like to try reading in the future.

The Mr. Sketch markers have been a big hit, too, and have been used during class for groups to write and draw collaborative responses at their tables. And I'm confident that students will also enjoy the additional supplies from this project in future classes.

Thank you again for your kind donation to help some NYC 6th graders enrich their classroom experience this year!”

  • Eco-friendly ELA Supply Refresh

    Funded May 1, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support for this project to support 6th grade ELA students in our classroom!

The environment-themed books have been a great addition to the classroom library. Several students have already enjoyed checking out the graphic novel Global. And the Carl Hiaasen series has also been popular. Series books are always a great way to promote independent reading, even in middle school and beyond, so thank you for providing my students with this engaging fiction series!

As we come to the end of the year, many kids are running low on supplies. I am giving them each one of the plantable pencils to carry them through the end of the school year and to also remind them to keep writing and learning over the summer, too. The eco-friendly paper goods and cleaning supplies are definitely greatly appreciated. The tissues, wipes, and paper towels from this project are allowing us to close out this year without running out of these essentials, and to have some left to be off to a strong start for next school year, too.

My students and I sincerely appreciate your generous donations!”

  • S.O.S.=Store/Share Our Stuff!

    Funded Jan 18, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support of my 6th grade ELA students. My classes were all very intrigued and excited when the big boxes with the new furniture arrived at school and they couldn't wait to see the finished product.

With help from my school's great custodial staff, the boxes with the wooden storage cubbies made it up to my 5th floor classroom. And with some help from a colleague who is handy I was able to put together the wooden cubbies. They are the perfect size to store the books students have been using this year, with extra room left over for a shelf for each class to have their current work handy as well. The slim profile of the units makes them a great fit in the front of the room, too.

The chart posters look great, also, and I'm sure students will enjoy using these to share ideas when they collaborate in small groups. Your generosity in donating these materials to students this year is truly appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Terranova

  • Middle School English Essentials

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

I want to extend my sincere thanks for your generous donation to support our 6th grade community. The materials that you have provided are a great addition to our English classroom, and they can help students with their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in so many different ways.

The manilla folders are being used to organize student work, and I am planning to share the adorable bookmarks with students soon. Report card envelopes have already been used, and just today I used the large lined post-its you provided so that kids could give each other personalized feedback on a writing activity.

These useful and practical donations have helped enrich our learning environment, so I thank you sincerely on behalf of my 116 students and myself.”

  • See the World in Color

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation of a color printer and extra ink to our 6th grade ELA classroom!

Last month students worked on an independent reading project on a book of their choice, and many students used color to create their book projects. Thanks to your generous donation of a color printer, I was able to print out the students' work in color so everyone could see what their classmates had come up with in response to the books that were chosen.

Sometimes we also need one or two extra copies of an important paper like a trip slip, and thanks to this printer which also features a copier function it's easy to quickly print an extra copy of a material that students might need right away in class.

This printer has been a great help in the classroom already, and it will serve as a valuable resource for many years to come I'm sure. Thank you again for helping students and teachers in NYC!”

  • Art Supplies and More for the School Library

    Funded Apr 6, 2023

Thank you again for your generous donation of classroom supplies. Having paper and coloring supplies readily available for students to use is so very helpful. Students were especially excited to see all of the new colored pencils! It's so great for kids to have quality supplies available for completing classwork.

The clear book storage bins have also come in handy as a way to organize popular book series. It helps with organization and also makes it easier for students to find the books they want to read, which is a win-win situation.”

Having a steady supply of basic classroom supplies on hand during the school year will help my students and I keep our classroom clean and safe. That way we can focus our attention on reading, writing, listening and speaking in a healthy and pleasant environment. The students I teach come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, and some students' households cannot afford to contribute optional supplies for the classroom. With this project and your generous support I hope to provide all of my 6th grade students with basic cleaning supplies we can share in order to have a safe, healthy school year.
